ADOPTED! Earl the Turtle

Earl with his new owner Sara Ellis

Today we have wonderful news at Clinton Critter Care!   All of us have been sick with the flu so there hasn’t been many updates lately, but we wanted to share the awesome news that Earl the Red Eared Slider finally went to a GREAT new forever home today with Sara Ellis from Overland Park. That’s Earl with Sara in the photo to the left!  We are so happy for Earl as Sara is an experienced and responsible pet owner and she has a brand new 75 gallon tank and stand just for Earl, with all necessary food, repti-safe, basking spot, UVB light and filter!  He is definitely going to the best possible home for a turtle we could have asked for!

Earl came to us a few months ago from a small tank with two other turtles that were in 2-3 inches of water which was unfiltered and unheated and he couldn’t completely dry out, nor completely submerge (a horrible situation for a turtle!) so we rescued the turtles, adopting 2.  Earl was the last to go, but one of the friendliest turtles!  He’s now left our turtle rescue habitat to go live in the lap of luxury in Overland Park.

Sara, we wish to thank you for adopting Earl, and we hope you will keep us updated on how Earl is doing in his new home!  We will miss him around here but couldn’t have hoped for a better home for him!

For Adoption! Artemis the Bearded Dragon

Artemis the Bearded DragonWe are looking for an experienced and educated bearded dragon owner to adopt Artemis (lovingly nicknamed “Artie”), an approximately 8 year old female bearded dragon.  We believe she might be a citrus or be a citrus hypo. She was surrendered to us by a family in Columbia MO who could no longer care for her or give her the attention she needs.

Artemis requires an adequate enclosure of a 40 gallon breeder tank at LEAST, or ideally an enclosure with 55 gallons or more, with strong UVB lighting (regular light bulbs do not contain UVB light), a basking spot with undertank heater, and a cool side to the enclosure.   She has to have fresh water daily treated with Repti-Safe or equivalent to remove chlorine and other heavy metals from the water, as well as lots of fresh greens and other fruits and veggies that HAVE to be replaced DAILY.  She also has to have a regular weekly source of insects such as dubia cockroaches (preferred) or crickets, dusted with reptile vitamins.  She also enjoys and will eat Fluker’s Bearded Dragon Diet (red pellets).  Also required are climbing limbs in her enclosure.

She also needs regular “out of cage” exercise time, and we highly recommend a good bearded dragon leash for ease of mobility while keeping it safe, and weekly baths in warm repti-safe treated water.

Artie is missing the end of her tail, due to being housed together with a male bearded dragon before coming to us.  We recommend that Bearded Dragons ALWAYS be housed by themselves as they are naturally solitary reptiles.

If you would like to adopt Artemis the bearded dragon, please fill out the adoption application located on our website here:

http://clintoncrittercare.com/?page_id=259

Artemis the Bearded Dragon on Volunteer Katie Lynne Gilbert's HeadArtemis’ adoption fee is $75 and she is located in Clinton,Missouri.  If you cannot provide a loving forever home for Artemis, please help us to care for her and other bearded dragons we rescue by donating an item to them off of our Amazon.com wishlist for our reptiles, including bearded dragons!  They are in need of heat lamps, bearded dragon food, repti-safe or equivalent for their water, or anything else on our reptile wishlist.  It will be sent directly to us, and will be put directly towards the care of this or other reptiles in the future we may rescue!  Thank you!

New Years Thanks To One Small Mouse

Thanks to Serena Cowdy and One Small MouseToday we are celebrating coming into a new year, and on this new year, Clinton Critter Care wishes to send many thanks to One Small Mouse, both literally and figuratively.

It was due to some very tiny mice over in Great Britain that journalist Serena Cowdy began her quest to help save many more tiny lives across the world.  Her blog, One Small Mouse, features many ways you can make the world a better place by helping animals large and small – in fact it’s absolutely incredible that this huge effort to save small animals by Serena began with the tiniest of lives most people consider a “pest”.

A few days ago, One Small Mouse was kind and caring enough to feature Clinton Critter Care on her blog, and was extremely generous in the things she said.  In her post she says

If it’s not a dog or a cat, virtually no shelter in her area will take an abandoned pet on. And that means small pet owners wanting to get rid of their animals often simply dump them into the wild. Of course, most of these abandoned creatures die. And the ones that don’t have a devastating effect on the local eco-system.

Clinton Critter Care not only rescues and re-homes small animals. It also runs free educational shows at schools, youth groups and other venues to teach kids how to treat animals.

Give something back to your first pet

Many people’s first pets are little animals just like these. Perhaps, like me, you had mice, or a goldfish or a hamster or a tortoise in the garden. All over the world, these little chaps are teaching kids the value of responsibility, and what it means to really care for and love another creature.

I believe that the ways kids treat animals give a fairly good indication of how they are likely to treat other human beings when they grow up. If you do too, you’ll get how important these little creatures can be.

It’s just not right that they’re thrown out like rubbish when their owners – children or adults – get bored of them.

I love how Stephanie has stepped up to the plate, against all the odds and when no one else will give these small creatures a second thought.   >>>READ MORE BY CLICKING HERE

In addition to her extremely helpful post that we are so thankful for, Serena has also made several extremely helpful donations of her own to Clinton Critter Care here in Missouri, including both rabbit food, and a $25 Amazon Gift Certificate to our rescue critters – what an amazing holiday gift for our animals, who are very thankful for the donations, but for our rescue efforts as well!  Thank you Serena, we can’t thank you enough for your HUGE impact on our rescue, and for this great start to 2013 at Clinton Critter Care – may your efforts with your blog continue to help those animals in need across the globe!

Could you help us too?  If you can help Clinton Critter Care, please click here to see the ways you can help us on our website, with links to our Amazon wishlist and other ways to help as well!  Thank you so much for your generosity and helping us get a kick-start on the New Year!

Thank you for the Bunny Food!

Clinton Critter Care Featured on Quest for Thinner Peace

Clinton Critter Care Featured on Quest For Thinner PeaceClinton Critter Care wishes to extend HUGE thanks to Kristin Hodnett, the creative mind behind the popular and insightful blog, Quest For Thinner Peace.  Kristin was so very kind and wonderful to post an article on her blog about Clinton Critter Care and our Amazon.com wish list featuring things our organization really needs.  We truly appreciate the very generous and long article which we hope will help gain recognition and donations for our rescue and educational goals!

Kristin is an incredibly big-hearted woman who helps to inspire and encourage women all over the world.   From her page about her and her blog, she says:

“By nature I’m a writer, a social creature, and a (sometimes over) sharer. I’m determined to share not only all that I’ve been given, but everything I never was.

As a city girl transplanted to rural America with my husband, my Shih-Tzu, and my mother, I longed to connect with women motivated to follow their dreams, pursue their goals, and live their best life, but that often felt out of sync with those in my new surroundings. This blog became my place to share and inspire, to connect, and to learn from other women following their own paths to bliss.

This is our place to journey together.
Namaste.
I’ve heard this loosely translated as the divine light in me salutes the divine light in you. I can’t think of a more beautiful way to welcome you all then by acknowledging the divine spark in all of us.”

Clinton Critter Care was so inspired by what she has done for so many people, that we contacted her in the hopes of gaining her support for our animal education and rescue goals, and her article which she posted to help us gain awareness was absolutely wonderful.  Here is a small quote from the article:

Clinton Critter Care takes in and re-home reptiles and other small critters that deserve a voice and an advocate as much as any other animal, yet they rarely get it. This small but critical organization depends on people like you and I to run. They operate with just 12 “regular” volunteers and an Assistant Director to clean cages, care for animals, help at educational and adoption events, and raise much needed funds. In their rural area of Missouri, this is actually good, as even typical shelters have limited resources, and those are all beyond maximum capacity and without the equipment, supplies, appropriate habitats or knowledge to support the animals that Clinton Critter Care can.”  >>>Click to Read Full Article<<<

Thank you SO very much Kristin for the wonderful post on your blog, and for helping to spread the word about Clinton Critter Care!!  Your kind words and deeds are an inspiration to all, and we appreciate your mentioning us on your blog, as it greatly helps the abandoned, neglected and abused animals we rescue as well as our educational programs to prevent future problems by educating today’s youth.  It is SO TRUE that we sincerely need the help of people like you and others to help save the animals we rescue and assist in the state of Missouri.

Have YOU mentioned Clinton Critter Care on your blog or Facebook page?

New Items Needed on Our NEW Amazon.com Wishlist

Donate now via our Amazon.com Wishlist which includes desperately needed items for the small animals, reptiles and amphibians we rescue and re-home across MissouriThis Amazon.com wishlist is for Clinton Critter Care’s rescued critters, which includes items we desperately need for our organization that you can donate easily via our Amazon.com wishlist.

We serve the entire state of Missouri, although we are based out of Clinton, MO. However we educate people nation-wide to encourage proper animal care and keeping tips and stressing prevention through education.

With care sheets available publicly through our website online at clintoncrittercare.com, educational shows and presentations in schools and youth groups to provide a hands-on one-of-a-kind learning experience as well as stressing the importance of not releasing a non-indigenous species into the local eco-system, not only because of the harm to the animal, but also because of the devastating impact that can have on the local eco-system.

We also serve the animals in Missouri by rescuing and re-homing animals that city shelters and local rescues don’t help out, such as snakes, lizards and other reptiles, amphibians, fish, guinea pigs, ferrets, rabbits, chinchillas, and many other small caged critters. The animals we rescue are either abandoned, or have come from a neglectful or abusive situation, so these animals need rescuing just as much as dog or cats, which is the purpose of our organization.

Anyway, we have an Amazon.com wishlist that we have had for a while and only two people have purchased anything to help us to rescue more animals since we started our wishlist last May. We’re listed on Petfinder.com and Adopt-A-Pet.com, and we post our wishlist on our adoptable animals lists there, as well as on our website, but we just haven’t gotten but four small items donated from our wishlist since May.

So I’m posting this link with the hopes that the kind members here might share our wishlist on other websites or groups, or even possibly donate an item, which would be wonderful and awesome for the many animals we rescue and re-home. We REALLY truly need the help right now especially with it being around the holidays, and we are in desperate need for a lot of the items on our Amazon.com wishlist. Please take a look at it here, and please feel free to use the buttons at the top of the list to share it with your FB friends, Twitter, etc:

Clinton Critter Care Wishlist at Amazon.com - please help donate these needed items to our rescue!

Thank you so very much for taking the time to look at our wish list and sharing it with your friends online…our rescue is extremely grateful for any assistance we receive! Thank you and Happy Holidays!

For Adoption! Earl The Red Eared Slider Turtle

Adopt Earl the Red Eared Slider Turtle from Clinton Critter Care of Henry County MissouriAdopt Earl the male Red Eared Slider turtle! He’s a beautiful adult RES, approximately 5 years old. Needing a new home with at LEAST a 75 gallon tank if he is by himself, or 125+ gallons in a community tank. His carapace measures approximately 8 inches, and he has beautiful yellow markings. He came to us from a home that him housed in less than ideal conditions, and now he is staying with us until we can find him a new home.

He is very friendly, and would work well in a community tank, is receptive to being hand-fed, and has a very distinct intelligent and curious personality. This biggest issue with finding Earl a new home is that he needs a very large enclosure with lots of water to swim in (at least 12-14″ deep!) with a nice hot basking spot to come completely out of the water on, with UVA/UVB lighting, and must be fed a variety of foods including greens such as leaf lettuce, kale or cabbage, live foods such as crickets or superworms as a treat, and a staple diet of commercial cricket food. Krill and freeze-dried shrimp or bloodworms are also a favorite treat!

If you are interested in adopting Earl, please fill out our new ONLINE adoption application, or contact us toll free at 1-888-280-0145. We are asking a small re-homing fee of $10 for Earl. Located in Clinton, Missouri.

If you cannot provide a loving forever home for Earl, please help us to care for him by donating an item to them off of our Amazon.com wishlist for our reptiles, including turtles! They are in need of heat lamps, turtle food, repto-min for their water, or anything else on our reptile wishlist. It will be sent directly to us, and will be put directly towards the care of this or other turtles in the future we may rescue! Thank you!

Happy Endings for Two Bunnies at Clinton Critter Care

Bunnies AdoptedWe have had two happy endings for two extremely similar bunnies that we surrendered/transferred to Clinton Critter Care!   Bosco the Bunny as well as Ike the Bunny who looked very similar in appearance but from completely different places, were separately adopted by two wonderful new families who will love and appreciate them for the rest of their lives!

Bosco, who used to be named Bella before he was surrendered to us and we found “she” was a “he” and renamed him to Bosco, was adopted by Hanna D & family after being with us for a couple of weeks.  We know that Bosco will be loved and cared for by you and your family, and we appreciate your adoption of Bosco.

OHappy Endings for Both Bunniesur other bunny Ike who looks similar to Bosco, is Ike the bunny who was transferred from a local shelter was also adopted by Jenni G. and family, who have Ike a BEAUTIFUL new rabbit enclosure that is one of the most stunning handmade enclosures we’ve seen for a rabbit!!

Both bunnies have now finally been adopted out, and we are so thankful to those families mentioned above for choosing adoption!!  It’s a WONDERFUL HOLIDAY for these bunnies!

PLEASE REMEMBER:  Owning ANY animal is a responsibility, and rabbits require as much or possibly more care than most pets, such as cats, dogs or birds.  Do your research and use Google to find the answers you need to find out if owning a rabbit is right for you.  NEVER give pets as holiday gifts, especially rabbits during Easter Time.  Rabbits grow very quickly and have very special, and somewhat expensive needs as well as regular veterinary care!  Read these pages to learn if owning a rabbit is for you, before you adopt or purchase ANY rabbit:

Is a Rabbit Right For Me?

PetFinder.com Article:  Do Rabbits Make Good Pets?

And finally, a good video to watch on rabbit care in general!
